Founded on May 15, 1851, Alpha Delta Pi is the oldest secret society for college women in the world. Established at Weslyan College in Macon, Georgia, the first college chartered to grand degrees to women in the world, the story of Alpha Delta Pi is a remarkable one. Initially, six young women founded "The Adelphean Society". Among them where (Pictured below from left to right) Eugenia Tucker (Fitzgerald), Ella Pierce (Turner), Octavia Andrew (Rush), Mary Evan (Glass), Sophronia Woodruff (Dews), and Elizabeth Williams (Mitchell). As many sororites increased in number, "The Aldephan Society" soon became Alpha Delta Pi.
Alpha Delta Pi has over 200,000 initiate's worldwide and over 130 active chapters making it one of the largest sororities in the National Panhellenic Conference. In addition to being charted as the first secret society for college women, and mother of today's current sorority system, Alpha Delta Pi has led the way as the first sorority to celebrate it's 150 year anniversary! ADPi is the first sorority to institute a shortened, preinitation prgoram, and total membership education and ADPI's Abigal Davis Fund Gives money to members for grants. For the 150th Anniversary, ADPi donated the largest gift ever of $150,000 to NPC. It was the first sorority to establish a foundation specifically for scholarships for its collegians and alumnae.
